ERECTING POU AT
KURA KAUPAPA O HOKIANGA
This was a very tricky job that presented many challenges!
Offsite engineers designed a mounting bracket that was extremely difficult to work with and required some real out of the ordinary techniques.
With only 1 week until opening, the Kura Management team were struggling to find a contractor to do the job. They had already engaged half a dozen other contractors to do the job, but nobody wanted to touch it due the complexity and high level of significance the awesome carved Pou held. They took pride of place in the courtyard and main entry to the new Kura complex.
Over $4000 worth of 16mm high grade stainless steel rod was required to secure the 8x (approximate 1 tonne) carved Totara poles.
After 3 days of preparations using custom made jigs and templates the Pou were ready to lift with a mobile Hi-Ab Crane truck.
Once in place our team and the entire new school community let out a sigh of relief, the new Kura was now ready to open with the intricately carved Pou 'Niniwa & Arai te Uru' standing boldly at the front entrance, there to welcome and watch over the new school!
